Top 8 automobile technologies to watch out for in 2020

Car manufacturing companies have always been inclined towards constantly introducing new technologies in their models. Inclusion of technologies not only makes car models more appealing in terms of their look and feel, but also enhances the overall value and performance of the vehicle. Thanks to business car leasing allowing users to upgrade to a new car every 2-3 years, one can fully benefit from these latest technologies. Read more to know the top 8 technologies that are shaping the automotive market.

Price tag, mileage, ample boot, leg, or head space, and a strong after sales service network are certainly key considerations while spending money on a car, whether for purchasing it or while opting for business car leasing. However, today these are “sure things” for any car brand. Car buyers are now considering add-on features that can turn a user’s driving experience into an easy-breezy one, exceptionally safe and comfortable. It is not only good for the driver and people in the car, but for other commuters as well.

Here are 8 car innovations that will improve the vehicle’s safety and the quality of car rides in 2020:

Fingerprint car locks

Forget those bulky car keys responsible for that annoying bulge in your pocket. One or more drivers can now register their fingerprints in the fingerprint car lock system and make a keyless entry into the vehicle. The fingerprint is authenticated twice by the fingerprint reader. First, at the door handle, and second, at the car’s ignition.

Remote vehicle shutdown

Car thieves, beware! With this vehicle shutdown system, a car owner or authorized user can remotely locate and disable, stop, slow down a stolen vehicle. The technology makes use of radio pulses.

Driver health monitoring

Now, there’s a car that will call up emergency assistance. The seat belt or steering wheel is fitted out with physiological sensors that monitor the driver’s pulse rate, blood sugar, blood pressure, stress, fatigue, and drowsiness. In an emergency, the car will just pull off the road and alert emergency services, in a jiffy.

360-degree camera

With the top view it affords, navigating a bulky SUV is a cakewalk. The car is lined with cameras on all sides and the screen grabs generated by all of them are pooled to give the driver a 360-degree field of view. Thus, the car can be spared even minor bumps and scratches.

Lane keeping assistance

The vehicle stays in its lane, no matter what. A lane keeping assist is a more proactive avatar of the previous lane departure warning system. The moment a car threatens to drift across its marked lane, the warning system would emit an alarm. Lane keeping assistance goes one step further, to nudge the driver back into the right lane or even apply automatic brakes.

Rear cross-traffic alert

Backing up a car into the often-tight spot between two other vehicles can be tricky. So is reversing out of a parking spot without backing into other vehicles, or worse still, into a pedestrian. Well, not anymore! The rear cross-traffic alert system uses sensors to help the driver “see” objects behind the car, makes warning beeps, and even automatically brakes the car, if needed.

Exit assist to protect cyclists

Cycling is catching up around the world as a clean and green mode of transport, free of noise and exhaust emissions. It is important for motorists to be considerate to cyclists. A mindlessly opened car door is a daily risk that many cyclists have to deal with. Radar sensors in the exit assist system alert the driver of cyclists or vehicles approaching the car from behind, and this works up to three minutes after the engine is turned off. The system sounds an alarm or gives off bright lights to catch the driver’s attention. More advanced versions will even lock the door, if the driver doesn’t heed the warning.

Brake override system

This is an instance where an “intelligent” brake override system takes over control from the driver and brings the vehicle to a halt to save lives. This could come into play, for instance, in a scenario where the car is accelerating beyond the driver’s intention, because of some electrical malfunction.

These technologies not only make cars more appealing on the inside and outside, but also enhance the safety of vehicles and people riding in them. It will, eventually, enhance your experience of riding a car and will help you keep your driving style smooth and consistent. So, if you wish to lease a car from a fleet management or leasing company, ensure that the model offers some, if not all, of these technologies!
