Electric vehicles are the future of mobility
Petrol and diesel vehicles are known to be the major reason for the rapidly increasing air pollution in India, which makes it inevitable that shifting to electric vehicles is not only an effective solution, but is also the only answer. This blog discusses the future of mobility in India when it comes to electric vehicles.
Over the last decade, several initiatives have been taken to spread awareness among people in India about the disastrous, long-term effects of air pollution caused by petrol or diesel vehicles. So, the need for an alternative, more energy-efficient solution is rising by the day, as the situation in India gets worse. Taking this into consideration, the government of India took an initiative in 2015 as a part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan, called FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Electric Vehicles), to boost the adoption of Electric Vehicles.
Today, due to the increasing awareness about the ill-effects of air pollution and the vast investments made by manufacturers and vendors to make this transition smooth, many business car leasing companies in Europe have already shifted towards electric vehicles. This shift will also compel people in other countries to opt for electric vehicles. And, that is a step in the right direction!
To encourage manufacturers and vendors in India, the government is providing incentives to them. Several manufacturers have already started making electric vehicles. For e.g. Tata Motors have three beautifully designed car models, Mahindra & Mahindra have entered the market with vans, rickshaws, and cars, and Ashok Leyland have started creating electric buses. In addition, Hero MotorCorp has offered the proposal of setting up solar photovoltaic charging stations for 2-wheelers. However, creating a proper charging infrastructure all over the nation is still a daunting task. Besides, the lack of options and the narrow price range are few challenges that would need to be overcome in order to change people’s perception of electric vehicles.
Any buyer looks for a good design and energy-effective technology in their vehicles. Electric vehicles are not only tech-driven and well-designed, but they also offer other benefits, such as:
- Reduction in carbon emissions
- Pollution-free driving
- Less reliance on petrol or diesel
- Lower running and maintenance costs
These benefits are the reason why it is essential for the nation to witness an immense growth in the usage of electric vehicles. Here are some statistics that can further justify why electric vehicles are the future of mobility in India:
- As per FAME, India’s Electric vehicle market is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 37% in the next five years.
- Due to low cost bar, two-wheelers have been sold at a higher rate than four wheelers in the period of 2017-’18.
- By 2030, electric vehicles will amount to 50% of new vehicle sales, with a considerable share in the international automobile sector.
Electric vehicles will not only minimize the problem of pollution in India, but will also be an integral factor in creating a greener, better, and sustainable future.
